IT departments would be some of the last places to seek advice.
Electrical knowledge rarely exists there. An electrician typically
would know more.
Numbers would identify an IT person who knows this stuff. He should
know what a typical current draw is for each supply voltage. He
typically has a device to measure the actual power consumption; that
provided numbers. Most IT people only understand electricity
subjectively which is why so many myths survive. Your benchmark for
an informed IT person - anything he says is supported by numbers. And
he has equipment that provides answers with numbers – not Go-Nogo
testers.
Embarrassing is something called an A+ Certified Computer Tech. To
pass the test, no electrical knowledge is required. None. These are
also commonly found in IT departments.
