New one for me. Messages change from READ to UNREAD

This is Outlook 2003 running on Exchange 2003 and this is happening to only
one user.
This users mail changes from read to unread after couple of minutes. We have
disabled the reading pane, removed all rules, and disabled reading pane
options under Tools, Other.
We have run a virus scan
We have checked for spyware/malware with Microsoft anti-spyware and Adaware.
The kicker here is that all new mail doesn't change to read. Just some of
it. We are still looking for a pattern.

Anyone have an idea?

Thanks,

John

Good thought Gregg! I don't <think> but I will ask the user via reply to
this note.

Make sure no one else has that user's password. Someone could be reading the
person's mail.

No. He is not using OWA and no one else is checking his mail.

Any other ideas?

I have the same issue:

For the past couple of months a user has been experiencing new messages
auto
matically marking themselves as ‘read’ without any user interaction.

Takes about 10min before they mark as ‘read’
The user was pop3 and Blackberry when this first started. Few months
later, user went to an exchange account and then to a Motorla Q.
Throughout this transition the issue remains the same. The issue happens
even if outlook is closed and e-mail is received on the Q.

According to the system admin, this user’s Blackberry account was
cleared form the blackberry enterprise server. I also checked the
Verizon/blackberry account was clear of user profiles when it was pop
POP3.The user’s preview pain settings have been disabled.

The issue is happening in outlook web mail.

Maybe the account is being viewed by an outside source, I’m thinking
about changing the account password? Other then the e-mail header view,
anyway to track where an e-mail has been, from start to end? Any
help..any ideas..anything..would be great.

Thank you!

The most likely cause, based on your description, is sync software.
