New noises from my 1290

Please see my post of a few minutes ago.

I shut it off for longer. When I switched it on it made scary gear chomping
noises and flapped the paper pushing forward plate about. Then it settled
and gave me a green light. I tried a nozzle check and got a motor noise and
a red light.

Tomorrow (unless it self cures overnight) I shall mostly be researching new
printers.

Don't give up yet. Try what I suggested.

There is one other possibility... If the cleaning station springs get
sprung, the cleaning station can end up in the wrong position and this
can jam. That can also lead to the heads drying out Unfortunately, it
isn't easy to explain how to place it back in position.

Yet another possibility is that the ink wiper, a squeegee like device
that is to the left of the cleaning station which wipes the underside of
the head sometimes gets so full of residual ink that it gums up and gets
stuck (It moves into and out of place near the head). To fix that you
need to drip some cleaning fluid (a mixture of rubbing alcohol 10-30%
and ammoniated window cleaner 90- 70% is a good mix onto the area of the
ink wiper and allow it to soak for a while to dissolve the dried ink.

Again, for more info, email me.
