Hi,

I'm new to Windows.

I'm trying to make a new ethernet network connection on my friend's laptop
which is running XP.

He uses his ethernet NIC both at home and at work, and they need different
settings (one uses DHCP, the other static IP etc).

How can I make a new 'network connection'? All my attempts, via the wizzard,
have failed to give me a new icon.

Thanks.

Max.

The only way to make a new network connection is to install a new
network adapter on the computer. There can only be one connection per
adapter.

These programs let you store multiple network configurations and
switch between them easily:

NetSwitcher

MultiNetwork Manager

Max,

I see you already got good advice. Perhaps in this case a simple
method could already solve the problem. Enter the static IP
setup in the alternative configuration, which is used whenever
the computer cannot find a DHCP server, so the switch would be
fully automatic.

If that works, it could be the nicest solution.
