New Motherboard

S

SuperPoo

Hi, I have an e-Machines computer that is out of warranty and the
motherboard has gone bad. e-machines offers a replacement for sale, but
not at a very good price. So I ordered a new ,non-e-machines,
motherboard and cpu. While I was waiting for the new harware, I
reformated and partioned the drive only to find out I can't reinstall XP
because the "recovery" disc won't work. I contacted e-machines, they
said I was sol, I contacted the retailer and they said about the same.
So what are my options?

Only option is to go out and purchase a "full version" of
Windows XP. OEM recovery disks only work with the
OEM's specific model motherboard.

Greetings --

If you're not going to purchase a replacement motherboard from the
computer's manufacturer, it's quite likely that the OEM Recovery CD
provided will _not_ work. The PC manufacturer is certainly under no
obligation to provide support for another manufacturer's parts, even
if the PC were still under warranty. At this junction, your only
option is to buy a full retail copy of WinXP.

the last 2 responses are wrong. even though it's OEM, you have a license for XP, all you need to do is get ahold of an installation cd and use the key that came with your e-machines.

Exodus, you have neglected to read e-Machines Windows licensing agreement --
the OEM license is for a particular computer with a particular motherboard.
The OEM Windows IS NOT transportable to another machine.

Also, the Windows key that SuperPoo got with his e-Machines will not work
with another installation disk.

Sorry, but that's the way it is -- whether you like Microsoft or not,
Microsoft is not responsible for the quality of e-Machines computers.
