The other day I started getting a message that says I may have an Illegal
copy of Windows on my screen. I have a Dell Computer that came with Windows
XP. What should I do to get rid of the message. Thank you

Contact Dell. Did you buy the PC directly from Dell or did you get it
from someone that bought it from Dell?

The computer was purchased directly from Dell. It is about 3 years
old.

Have you replaced anything major like a hard drive?

Has anyone ever repaired this PC?

Also, I understand that an incorrect date/time on your system clock can
cause a false positive.

Wipe the drive and install GNU/Linux. I suggest something like Ubuntu. That
will put an end forever to such silliness.

Cheers.

It seems there have been a lot of false positives. I guess you could
ignore the nags or even uninstall the process that produces them.

Or if you want to do it by the book, see

Maybe it's just a matter of updating the WGA diagnostic tool.

Searching the Microsoft forum archives, it appears that the tool often
detects a Volume License Key (whether it really exists or not).

Good luck.

Thanks Daave, I printed out the info from the link to tinyurl.com and will
try on Wednesday to fix it. (Actually it is my friends computer). I will
post if it worked. Appreciate the help.
