Guess the header pretty much says it all. For quite some time I have tried
clicking on the arrow next to the mail sign on ie6 browser and then clicking
on new message .... nothing happens .... actually the only one in the group
that works is - read mail.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to repair this feature? It is not listed
in the add/remove programs ... so can not do a repair from there

TIA

What program do you want as your default email program? If it's Outlook
Express:

From http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/defaultl.htm

Go to Start | Run and type this command, with the double quotes and spaces:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg

and then make sure that OE is selected as the default mail program in both
IE and OE.

If that isn't enough, see this article:
"Send To" and E-mail Links Do Not Work Using Outlook Express as Default:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=306098

You might also want to try this:

Restores OE to the E-mail clients list in Internet Options
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/oe_client.htm

To set Outlook 98, 2000 or 2002(XP) as the default mail client,- Go to
Start, Run - Type in the following with quotation marks and press OK
"C:\program files\microsoft office\office\outlook.exe" /checkclient
For more information on Outlook see:
http://www.slipstick.com/config/defaultmailer.htm

Thanks so much for your reply ......
guess I must not have phrased my problem correctly....

When I have connected to a web page ... and I want to send a new message
....from within the ie6 browser ......most often because it (the page) will
not "save as"
correctly .... .... so I Control A and then copy .... and then go up to the
toolbar and click
on the little arrow next to the little envelope and click on new message
...... nothing happens ......
I used to be able to do this and a new email would open ..... I could save
the web page
as for example in my drafts folder....

Now I have to open up Outlook Express and then click on to open up a new
message and then do the paste thing .... which is just extra steps........
as I
recall I could at one time just do it though ie6 browser.

Do you have any other ideas??

Thanks muchly

Mike:

Both OE & IE are default progams ...
Actually what I meant by writing that some programs will not save correctly
is some of them
have this funtion turned off, ect. and on some it takes a huge amount of
time to try and save
them (am on a very pokey dial up service) ... So to save information I
would often highligh the
information to save, copy it and then click on the mail icon in IE and
click on new message .... and one
would open up .... I would then paste and save the email.

However now the only functions that work from the mail icon are either Read
mail or newsgroups.

I have tried registering OE again as well as all of the suggestions that
Frank made .... and still
no joy. Am running XP pro with SP1 which I should have mentioned in my 1st
request for help.

Any other ideas would be welcome!

OE & IE were both set as default ...... and then I ran through the gamet of
all of your
suggestions. I should have mentioned that the pc is running Win XP pro SP1

In the registry what was originally shown: DLLPath REG_EXPAND_SZ
%ProgramFiles%Outlook Express\msoe.dll

I did a seach on msoe.dll .... and found it: C:\Program Files\Outlook
E£xpress\msoe.dll
so changed the pertinent part.

But, none of the fixes have fixed it. The only things that work either from

If you can come up with any other thoughts - I would be greatful.

I assume you didn't have a pound sign after the E of Express.

I don't know what's wrong. Did you try the Doug Knox script?

Yes for good measure I did run Doug Knox's script too.

This of course is not a major thing - more a small annoyance .....

Thanks again Mike...
spent most of yesterday tearing my hair out and think I am going to throw in
the towel.

I know I have run sfc /scannow without problems ..... but this time it ate
my NVIDIA drivers and I
ended up with a 4 bit color and 800 X 600 resolution ...... which could Not
be changed the slider wouldn't slide
and the 4 bit was the only option listed. That was not a pretty sight!!!
Luckily I had saved the drivers (update)
on CD and was able to get them back.

I have gone through most all suggestions I could find including Doug Knox's
fix - which apparently only works
if you have the sp1 update on CD (I downloaded it over 4 plus torturous
hours)

I did not do the reg fix .... as my number/letters were not exactly the same
....... and the thought of all of those
updates...................

Thanks again for your time and help.
