New mail in Outlook 2000 had a better appearance than Outlook 2003

I receive a news service each day. I have just installed Office Professional
2003 and the emails that I now receive from that service are not set up as
well as when under Outlook 2000.

I also receive the service at my placve of employment where they still use
Outlook 2000. The same messages have not changed. They are easier to read and
the setting out is better than what I receive at home using Outlook 2003. I
have set up under "Options - Mail Format" "Compose message format: Rich Text"
I have ticked "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to edit e-mail messages" and as
well "Use Microsoft Office Word 2003 to read e-mail messages".

Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

My received messages under Outlook 2000 were easier to read and the format
was much better. I would have though that at least I would have the same
under Outlook 2003.

Thank you for any guidence you may have.

Are the items coming in form the news service in plain text format? If yes,
have you tried turning off Outlook 2003's default behavior of removing extra
line breaks from plain text messages?

ps - the setting in the second question is at tools > options > prefs. tab

Never a good idea IMHO. I assume those incoming messages are in HTML.
Word has many deficiencies as HTML editor/renderer.

For a start, its HTML code is overly verbose: e-mail messages composed
in WORD HTML are typically 3 times as big as those composed in native
Outlook.

Second, Word will mangle hyperlinks to network files in unexpected ways;
Outlook doesn't.

Third, Word fails to render some basic HTML code, like <SPAN
style="LINE-HEIGHT: 160%"> or <P align=justify>.

Using Rich Text for outgoing messages is bound to create problems with
some recipients.

Make sure you have OL11 configured the same way as your OL9. Many
default settings have changed (some for the better), and you may have to
spend some time in the Options dialogues to get everything you want.
