New laptop not recognizing LaCie external USB drive

I recently purchased an Acer laptop. When I hooked up my LaCie back up drive,
the system did not acknowledge it. I am running XP Pro. This worked fine on
my old laptop, a Compaq Evo.

I tried to find new usb drivers but was unsuccessful.

Any ideas.

Connect the drive and then right click on My Computer, select Manage. On
the following screen, click on Disk Management.

Does it show up on the right hand side of the screen? If so, assign it a
drive letter.
