Lacie external HDD

I recently bought a new LaCie external HDD and hooked it up to my PC
via USB 2. When I click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in my
WinXP System Tray my LaCie hard drive is listed as a Seagate drive...

Why is my LaCie drive showing up as a Seagate drive?

Because the DRIVE is a Seagate. Only the external casing is made by LaCie..
They buy drives from whoever offers them cheapest..

Thanks for the information, Thomas!

I thought that LaCie were actually manufacturers of hard disks and not
only packagers of hard disks! ;-)

They DO (or at any rate did) make their own CDroms.

Because LaCie just makes the enclosure and the IDE controller that
connects to a hard drive made by whomever was selling them for less that
month.
