I have a laptop and got hit with a virus and need to reintsall XP Pro. I
have the cd and went to bott with it but the cd drive does not see it in
windows either but I can open any other cd and boot also. I tried th cd in
another pc and it sees it no issues. I also have another XP pro cd and tried
it same issue. What the heck is going on?

Only these two cd do not work. Why and how to I fix this issue?

Thanks

What virus? How do you know you got hit with it? What anti-virus software
identified it, and why didn't it prevent it?

and need to reintsall XP Pro.

Why? In most cases when you have a single virus, it can successfully be
removed by anti-virus software.

Are you saying that the XP CD will boot in other computer but not yours, and
that other CDs will boot in yours?

Normally you get a recovery cd from the laptop manufacturer or an original
windows xp cd have you got yours? If you have a copy this might be causing
your problem.

No, I don't have a problem. With a message like the above, please be careful
to reply to the OP, not to someone like me who replied to him.

I have an original version of XP PRO SP1. I can not find the restore cd for
the laptop and on the Manf website it shows as discont. So what do I do now?
Is it easy to boot from a network and install off a not CD drive? This is an
option on the boot up for the laptop.

Thanks

Some mainboards have newer controllers not supported on win xp sp 1 try sp 2
or even sp3. If there is a problem with your drive you can try a removable
cd/dvd rom drive setup the boot option in your bios that will also work,
however I haven't encountered a problem where the disk doesn't work at all
surely it would work until a point. Next time you have a virus please try
visiting your anti-virus web sites as they normally know how to fix problems
in detail, which can save you a lot of time having to install all programs
and recovery of data/music etc... Good Luck.

I do not have an external cd drive to try. When I did put it in the cd rom it
spins a few times and then when I open it in my computer it is blank screen
showing nothing. This is very weird. I only have SP1 as it is an orignal cd
from MS.

How do I use the boot from network option?

Thanks

This could be quite a fruitless task especially as I wouldn't want to connect
your laptop to any network as you could be speading your virus over the
network. I take it your computer is still working try fix the virus problem
instead of re-installing! You can get free anti-virus from Microsoft or AVG
for personal computers update them then scan and clean else search on the
internet for the virus name this will give you ideas of how to fix the
problem. If you insist on wanting to re-install take it to a professional
with an external cd/dvd rom which can help you he/she might even have sp2
which is without a doubt a minimum recommendation. Good Luck

Do those CDs boot other systems? Are the files visible on those systems?
You might try making a copy of the CD (note that you can't just copy the
files, you have to use something like Nero's Copy CD option).
