New installation of Windows need Start Up Disk?

Hi I have just installed XP Pro onto a new pc with a SATA hard disk. The OS
works fine but the bios will only boot into XP when the XP CD rom is in the
CD drive which it checks first before going to the HDD to load windows.

If I try to only allow the bios to boot only from HDD it gives me the
message "Verifying DMI pool data....." and then it hangs.

I have tried removing the cd drive but then whilst the bios detects the
change it still hangs.

Any advice about this problem? Could the XP installation need files (eg
system files)from the XP CD rom to start, have I missed something in the
installation or is this likely to be a bios issue?

There's a good deal of info re that error message out there. Try a Google
search for "Verifying DMI pool data".

Perhaps someone else will have more detail on this, but it sounds like
you have an incomplete install to still need the CD to get it going.
This is an idea point though to learn to use the Repair Install; it
should install any files that are missing and/or correct the .ini's,
etc. If that's no help, I'd suggest starting over again, booting from
the CD, and going right from deletion/recreation of the partition/s and
onward.

I haven't yet installed a bootable OS onto a SATA drive, so if you had
to use the F6 for SATA drivers, perhaps something was done wrong there?
Most but not all SATA drives will use XP's SATA drivers; it depends on
the mfr.

You have more than one hard drive connected to the motherboard, and
it's a bios issue. Boot XP and run Disk Management to see which disk
contains the System partition. Then go into bios setup and move that
disk to the top of the list in either the Hard Disk Boot Priority or
Hard Disk Drives setting.

Thanks Andy, I have only one HDD on the system and this is set to the top of
the Hard Disk Priority list...

In this case make sure Hard Drive is in the boot sequence.

I am still trying to solve the problem, despite trying many different
configurations the bios seems to need to look at the CD Rom with a Win XP Pro
disk before going to the SATA hard disk and booting into XP. Most frustrating.

What kind of hardware do you have, in particular, the make and model
of the motherboard?

The motherboard is Abit A-N68SV and i am running XP pro on a SATA 2 hd.

Thanks for you help.
