Can I change the motherboard, chip, ram on my pc without
any adverse effects on windows xp? Do I/can I back up
with Norton ghost?

You will be changing some of the major components within your pc, therefore
Windows XP will not recognise your system and will request that you
reactivate your copy of windows. Until you reactivate you will be uinable to
access the windows desktop.

It is also highly likely that a repair install will be required to get the system back to a useable state after the hardware swap.
