My hard drive just failed. I bought a new one, but trying to reinstall the
Windows XP Home I have won't let me. It says it can't find any remnants of
the old OS. Okay, that's a given.

My original hard drive had Windows ME when I bought the computer. Any
suggestions?

HELP!

Do you still have the Windows Me installation CD? If so then all you
have to do is to insert it briefly when asked about previous OS.

And a CD for Windows 95, 98, or ME will work for this purpose.

Good luck

Sounds like winxp is an upgrade and untill you can provide a qualifying
product it wont install

Ron & DL,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I know the knowledge range of the
folks posting here is huge.

I should have been a bit more specific, though. I don't have any idea
where
the ME install disc is. With the way my wife "organizes" everything, I
was
just feeling good to find the XP CD. :-)

I'm asking around my office to see if anyone has any old ME or 98 install
CDs. I was just hoping there was SOME way to overcome this. I understand
protecting your product as I work for a software company. But, us honest
folks always end up paying.
It would seem that you should have bought a full upgrade. This is the
carelessness penalty which most of us have experienced.
