New firewire card is causing XP to 'hang' when selecting 'stand by' or 'hibernate'

I have just fitted a Pinnacle firewire IEEE 1394 card. It is recognised by XP and appears to work perfectly with the Pinnacle Studio 9 software and in all other respects my computer seems to be working normally. HOWEVER, whenever I try to put the computer in 'stand by' or 'hibernate' (which i do frequently) Windows XP hangs on the screen "Windows is preparing for Stand by........" or "Windows is preparing for Hibernate........."

I have tried uninstalling the Pinnacle Studio 9 software BUT no change
I have tried a replacement firewire card (same type) BUT no change
I have tried moving the firewire card to a different slot BUT no change

The only way I can cure the problem is to REMOVE the firewire card altogether. Then Win XP will 'stand by' or 'hibernate' normally. But as soon as I reinstall the firewire card in any of the available slots the problem recurs and the system 'hangs' if I use 'stand by' or 'hibernate'

Any suggestion on a fix would be most welcome

Either don't use standby or hibernate, or look at the Pinnacle card's
properties in Device Manager (double-click the entry to get it's
Properties) and see if there is a checkbox to enable/disable Windows
managing the device for power settings. Look carefully - this might be
on an Advanced tab. Also, it might be a good idea to check on
Pinnacle's website for tech support, user forums, etc. This might be a
known issue with this device.

Many thanks for your suggestions

I must be able to use 'hibernate' shut down mode as my battery backup system uses it following a power cut
I have checked the firewire's properties in device manager but there are no options that help and I have tried them all
I have written to Pinnacle Tech Support but they haven't come up with a fix yet
By the way, I have already checked that 'wake on lan' is disabled in the BIOS

So still looking for a fix before I have to admit defeat and take my computer to a specialist!
