New Email Notification in System Tray with IMAP accounts

I have made some extra folders in my IMAP email account and configured some
rules in the web interface for the email account, to sort new email into
folders.

However, I do not get a new mail alert in the system tray (notification
area) when I get mail in any of the new folders, only the main inbox. How
do I make Outlook display an alert for these folders?

Thanks

Hi SS:
I am working on this issue also.

New mail will show up in your inbox with an unread count, but when any
e-mail moved by a rule does not show up as new until you click on the
folder.

In Tools>Options>Mail Setup>Send Recieve>edit "Group Name" for your IMAP
account, there is a checkbox setting called "get folder unread count",
but this seems to have no affect one way or the other, even on the Inbox
(which shows unread e-mail counts regardless of the setting).

This is kind of a show stopper and I am finding it hard to believe that
this behavior is the default behavior, but it is. I have tested Outlook
2007 Technical Refresh 2 and it is the same.

This is a serious defect.

Hi John

I get the unread mail number appear after auto-send/receive after changing
the settings you mentioned, but I never get the new email notification icon.

I also can't seem to configure 'alerts' as shown in my other post. I am
using Vista, and the Outlook desktop gadget that is available doesn't work
either. So I have to keep on checking manually, to see if I have received
any important mail.

I misread your question. I also have the issue that you report so it
would be interesting to see if anyone comes up with a resolution.
