new download

I recently upgraded from windows me to xp. Yesterday for
some reason my system stopped functioning. So i tried
downloading a new installation , but my system stops
functioning at installing windows. Can anyone tell me
why ?

What's happening exactly?..Screen freezes..error messages?
BSOD error codes?
Was the XP firewall enabled?Were you fully patched?Were
you connected to the Internet when the system stopped
functioning?

If you can supply a bit more info,that'd be great.
