new cpu won't boot on old motherboard

Hi guys,

I have just bought a new pentium 4 2.4A 533 to replace existing celeron 1.7
cpu.

Motherboard is Matsonic 9407c+533, documentation says it supports cpu upto
533 fsb. I installed the new cpu into motherboad, the pc does not boot up.
Only the power fan and cpu fans are working. No sound, no bios loaded.
Switched the celeron cpu back into the motherboard and it works fine. Have
tried the following but with no success-

a. update bios to latest from MB manufacturer
b. swop HSF unit ; celeron cpu works with both new and old HSF.

Would appreciate any sugguestion which may help.

Thanks

I always use AMD so I am not sure, but does a Pentium 4 not require an extra
power-supply connection? I thought this square yellow-yellow-black -black
connector was especially for P4 (maybe You already knew that and maybe
Celeron uses this connector as well: In that case, forgive me, just trying
to be of help).

Good luck!

Sincere greetings,
Rene

P.S. I do not find the matsonic site very informative...

Only one thought occurs. Does the FSB on your mobo have to be set manually
and, if so, have you done it.

Do you have memory installed??? Also, it is best to get the MB booting
while it is outside of the case so that you know if the case is shorting
after mounting.
