An opinion about everything

This might seem a simple one but it has me stuck! In AD, how can I
create new containers? The only options I have are to create new OU's
which I don't want to do.

Thanks

Start / Programs / Windows 2000 Support Tools / Tools ADSI Edit.
Expand Domain NC [DomainName], and press DC=Domain, DC=com.
Action menu / New / Object.
In the Select a class box, press container.
Press Next.
In the Value box, type TheContainerName, and press Next.
Press Finish.

Thanks for the excellent reply. One question though, if a container
is an OU, then why have containers? I know what to use an OU for
(i.e. block GPO inheritence, delegate control etc.) but why would I
use a container instead. Also, is there a limit to the number of OU's
I should create or have as best practise?

TIA

Well, let me re-phrase, OUs are commonly referred to as "containers". In
AD and in NDS (which AD is the MS version of) there are no objects
specifically named "Container" that I know of. I am admittedly not an AD
expert, though I've been dealing with NDS for some time. Might be best
to wait for someone more familiar with AD to answer.
