new computer - can't install XP

I have just put together a new computer: Asrock K7S8X - 512M DDR -
AMD2600+ - 120M Western Digital hard drive - DVD writer - floppy - Abit ATI
9200SE graphics.

After partitioning the hard drive and XP has created a list of files to be
copied from the CD onto the hard drive, it starts to fail when copying them.

The CD, hard drive and DVD writer appear fine, checked in another machine.
Also installing used (working) DVD and hard drive copying fails.

Any suggestions?
 
You are booting from the CD to perform the format, partitioning and
installation?

Yes I am booting from the CD to format, partition and install.
