New burner recommendations?

I have swapped burners. I have a Lite On 32x CD RW drive, that has been
causing me headaches. I swapped it with an old Iomega 8x CD RW drive, and
at least it works. The Lite On worked, but it caused my computer to freeze
up constantly. I'm ready to get a new burner. I want to be able to use
Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, which I have now with a new burner. I would
prefer to have a burner with a black bezel. I would prefer 48x or 52x. I
don't want a Lite On as this is the second burner that has died that I've
used before. I don't want to have to use anything other than Easy CD
Creator 5. (Meaning I don't want to buy the latest 7 version or 6.) I
really don't want to order a burner off of the Internet because I'm very
impatient. I'm looking for a price limit of around $50. Any good or decent
burners out there for this price? Thanks.

I have Easy CD Creator updated, and I had to for my Lite On 32x to work, let
alone XP where if you don't update it, the computer will stick on the XP
startup screen.

Only recommendation that I can suggest to you is to purchase a DVD
burner rather than a standard CD burner.

I'm not a movie person, and I would like to see them get faster to around
12x DVD burners first. It would really be nice to see 16x, which is as fast
as a typical DVD drive will read. I would also like to see the standard CD
burning speed increase on them before I would be interested. The fastest I
can find for DVD burners right now for regular CDs is 32x. I would like to
see maybe 40-48x here.

I just installed a Memorex CD-RW cost $69 w/ $30 rebate. Burns at
52-32-52 and believe it or not the blank CDRW packed in the box said
24X Ultrafast. I burned it as a test and the thing was blazing fast.
Went to Staples but coulnd not find any CDRW's rated at 24x Ultrafast.

If you in the US, just look at the Sunday sale ads. Someone usually has one
on sale. I have a TDK and am very pleased with it.

Hey Travis,
I just ordered a Lite-On SOHC-5232K from www.newegg.com
came in ~5 days burns well, and has DVD playback.
newegg almost always has reviews on the products it sells, good & bad.
You can ususally tell the most popular / reliable from them.
even if you don't buy from them, it';s a good resourse for opinion.
if you're impatient, you can always ship overnight....

Matter of fact, I use Newegg a lot. I love Newegg... I'll wait another day
for adds first before I make any decisions. I would use Lite On, but after
having a CD ROM drive that sounded like it was going to fall apart at any
time, the same with another CD ROM drive of their's I've used, one of their
burners gears got stripped rendering the burner useless, mine causing my
computer to freeze up, and by brother's burner sounds like the gears could
get stripped on it if he isn't careful. This is why I would not want a Lite
On again... The best Lite On drive I've used is my 16x DVD drive that I
have. It is somewhat quiet and it sounds better than the rest of them.
