New box

Just got a new box. Appears last one got hurt after 2 hour power outage last
Sunday. I know,I know. Thought the surge protector I had there was enough.
Evidently not. Old box powers up (can hear fan running but no hard drive
activity indicated). Just curious, Mobo or fried drive?
Besides the usual and obvious on new computer ( AVG, Spybot,
Adaware) what and how should I backup in case I have to restore.
BTW, new box doesn't have a floppy drive. Didn't even notice prior
to buying. May transfer the old one since I use that for small backups as
opposed to CDRW's. Kinda miss it already.

Most MOBO's support a floppy whether the box has one or not.
If necessary, they have external USB floppy drives.
Backup has as many solutions as you'd want.
You can backup data files to a CD, or Ghost an image every so often. or or
or
Google it, you'll see what I mean.

Does the old box Post or just sit there with the fan running?
No POST usually means a bad MOBO, but you could try clearing the BIOS & see
if it posts.

No POST. Can't get into safe mode or the Bios. Just sits there. I'll have to
use it as a small fan when summertime rolls around again. Should have saved
or printed the findings from Belarc adviser after I ran it on that machine.
At least it would have told me the Mobo manufacturer and other parameters in
case I decide to experiment and replace it myself.
Actually now that I think of it I believe all that info was in
the friggin users manual. Must be a label on the Mobo too. I recall seeing
something like LV77 something. I'll take another peek.Thanks

A fried modem can cause that.
