Download here

How to install. (Windows)

1. Exit BOINC, and check its not running in task Manager.
2. Install the new version over the top of the old one. No need to uninstall the old version and you will not loose any work. It will just carry on from the old one.

For a more detailed install guide go to the BOINC Wiki found here

If your on 5.8.8 then its recommended you update as this fixes some bugs some users experienced with that version. :thumb:

Cheers V_R

I was running 5.8.8, and although I never experienced any problems, I would still rather be on the most up-to-date version! All downloaded, installed, and running flat out :thumb:

Keep on crunching

I never had any issues either, but there was some only at WCG that had some really probs, I believe Rush and Itsme had some grief with it too. :)

I tried it out in the Beta, it would not stabilise, kept coming up with all sorts of errors when trying to communicate with WCG or even crunch the numbers.

This was with ver 5.8.8 & I believe people had "problems" with 5.8.11 also ... apparently, if you did not save before a reboot you lost all the crunchin time/data & had to start again.

There have been other "issues" that some experience while other have had no problems.

The way Vista "communicates" with itself & the outside world seems to be the main issue.

Yes!

There is at least 1 reason ... it "fixes" a bug with some firewall software. :thumb:

You dont strictly have to update it, (although sometimes the new projects WCG release wont work on older versions of BOINC) But as i see it they wouldn't release a new version if they didn't need to.

Its like updating your graphics drivers, you dont have to but you do. :)

Anyway it only takes a minute, Exit BOINC, install BOINC, Forget about BOINC! Thats it. :thumb:
