New AMD build locking up

AMD A64X2-4200+; Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 MB (flashed to current F5
level); Corsair XMS2 2x1GB DDR2-800; XFS 7900GS video; 2x WD1600YS in
Raid 0 (system), 1 seagate 320 gb & 1 WD500 gb - non-raid (all SATA);
Ulta 500w PSU; DVD rom drive & Lite-On DVD writer........

I have updated the BIOS with the latest version, running Win XP-Pro-SP2
in original config. (no updates).

The system boots and runs fine except that it completly locks up every
now and then. Using PS2 keyboard and mouse (switched from USB). It
usually happens when I load a CD or DVD, but not always. The only way
I can get out is with a hard reboot.

I read a post on the NewEgg site for the MB where poster said he had to
change the memory timing for the Corsair RAM, but I can't figure out
how to do that.

Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds like your power supply might be too weak. But run memtest86 to
test the RAM. If you need to change the timings, you can do that in your
system BIOS setup menu (usually hit DEL as the system is starting) -Dave

There is mention here, of avoiding the Nvidia IDE driver.

I think you may have the option of either using the Microsoft default
IDE driver, or the Nvidia one (called Mediashield?). Chipset maker
drivers have occasional issues, while the Microsoft one tends to
work. The Microsoft one won't be the fastest, since the chipset maker
drivers frequently include their own cacheing in system memory.
