Hi,
I use netzero and to connect with it I have an icon on desktop. The problem
is windows keeps trying to connect at the same time, using only 2222 with no
prefix, and comes back and says it is busy. I have tried to go to the
connection, then the properties, and delete this number out, but it always
comes back. It is just very annoying to have to hurry and beat windows to
try and connect with netzero. I am afraid to change anything for fear that I
won't be able to get connected at all. I have XP SP2. Any help with this
would be greatly appreciated!

Control Panel-internet options-Connection tab.
Check never dial-a-connection.
Click apply and ok.

Next part. I don’t know if windows will let you do this.
Control Panel-Network Connection
Click on the netzero dial-up
Choose properties
Options tab
Uncheck redial if line is drop. (If already, uncheck just hit cancel)

Hi Greg,
Thanks, I tried what you suggested but it didn't work. It still is trying
to dial 2222.
Any other ideas?
Thanks,
Kendy

Some program other than netzero is trying to dial out. Check all your
programs like virus scanner and other software that is trying to dial
out and disable the automatic update. Just like you did for I.E.

I know msn instant messenger will try to dial out.
set it so it will manually log in.

Check in the registry for something trying to auto update
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\windows\currentversion\run

Hi Greg,
Thanks for the reply. I don't know how to check the registry. I have
scanned with Hijack This, and tried to have it fix a couple of things, but it
didn't make any difference and they were back again when I scanned later.
Maybe I will just have to put up with this. I am not sure what is OK to have
the HJT fix, plus it doesn't seem to matter anyway.
