Dialing Problem - Netzero

J

Jim T.

I maintain a NetZero free dialup subscription just in case ---
I can dial up OK from my laptop connected to my phone line and get a
good connection. I can then access Comcast for mail, etc.
Trying to do the same from my Desktop with what I think is the same
setup I get a message "Can't start dialing" Not sure if its from XP or
Netzero.
Using the Windows dialer to call any number it works OK, so line is
connected and ports etc must be OK. Assume some incompatibility
between the modem (Dell on MB) and the NetZero dialer. XP claims
drivers are OK and modem checks out.
Will welcome any and all suggestions.

I know NOTHING about NetZero...so...

Don't USE the NetZero dialer...if they supplied one. Use the Windows
dial-up adaptor.

See if there's an option to view the entire dial-up window/process.
That way, you can tell where the hangup might be. Are you sure TCP/IP
settings, etc. are okay for that connection?

BTW...I don't know how Comcast works...I've never used them. But, in
my area, broadband providers also give you access by dial-up...at no
extra charge. You might look into it.

You might do that at THIS juncture...just to see if you can dial in to
a different provider. Or ask a friend if you can use his/her account
just once for testing purposes.

Good luck.

Have a nice one...

Thanks for your response, I found the problem - a required service was
not loaded. I'm sure I had turned it off in one of my spells of trying
to speed things up.
