Advice anyone?

I assume for many of your computer literates it is easy but following
costs me a lot of problems.

I suscribed to Netzero and can't configure my Windows XP dial up
connection.

Netzero disconnects me several times a day from the net for unknow
reasons and Windows always shows me these little grey shields, on
which I should klick to connect. When I click on it, I am not connected
to Netzero. In order to connect to Netzero, I have to close all my
windows and go to the icon on my desktop and click on that which takes
long.

In the meantime, I have a hard time to get rid of the Window dial up
connection, as this thing pops up and pops up.

What should I do?

have you tried contacting Netzero tech support? BTW, I know of no /dialup/
connection that allows you to stay connected all day - they usually have a
time-put setting......

They never configured Windows, they just mailed me a CD, that didn't
configure Windows. I called them but they want lots of money for tech
support. I thought that somebody here knows how to configure the dial
up connection in Windows XP.

Thanks for the tip. That's why it is important to configure the dial up
connection of Windows as that thing pops up all the time and is hard to
get rid off.

P.S. I amended the subject line for readers to see what kind of advice
is asked.

Hi Friendly Person,

I'm not quite sure exactly what it is you are trying to do, are you trying
to create a connectoid to Netzero that is separate from the connection that
is made using their software?

I went through some hair pulling moments a few weeks ago trying to set up a
connectoid to log onto Netzero for a relative using the New Connection
Wizard in Windows. Turns out that Netzero encrypts the "username" and
"password" that they supply you when dialing in using their software, so if
you want to make a separate connectoid you have to also encrypt your
"username" and "password" in the Windows Connectoid.

I went to this site:

http://www.scriptsearch.com/cgi-bin/jump.cgi?ID=6785

and generated a "username" and "password" that Netzero would accept.

In other words, if your user name for Netzero is (e-mail address removed) you
would type that into the utility at the site above and it will generate an
encrypted username that Netzero will accept, for example
"0:4A0.5:[email protected]" and likewise for the password.

Ironically, after I finally got the connectoid to connect to Netzero with
the encrypted username and password, they could not use pop3 email client to
download email without upgrading the package they had. I finally convinced
them to ditch Netzero and open an ISP account with their Telephone
provider(Bell South).

I would offer you the same advise, if your telephone provider offers
Internet Connection Service go with them.

As far as your internet connection being dropped, that can be easily
resolved by simply setting your email client(such as Outlook Express) to
ping your ISP every 5 minutes of so for new mail messages.

Good luck,

yes, because the Windows XP dial up connection bar constantly shows up.
The problem is: I don't know how to disable it that it does not pop in
my face constantly, and I don't know how to configure it.

That sounds very complicated.

I am thinking about ditching Netzero too. They don't even provide the
basic service to get you started. They just give you a CD, which
doesn't take care of what Window is doing at the same time.
I would offer you the same advise, if your telephone provider offers
Internet Connection Service go with them.

My phone company Internet service is quite expensive.

That is a good tip. However, do you know how to disable the MS XP dial
up connection notification?

My guess would be that if your "Windows XP dial up connection bar " is
constantly popping up, you have some program(s) on your computer that is/are
trying to dial home. It could be a reputable piece of software trying to
connect to the internet to update itself.

I guess the old adage that says "you get what you pay for" holds true here.
I've had three different dialup service accounts in the past 10 years,
they've ranged in cost from $14.95-$19.95 a month. My current
ISP(mikrotec.com) charges $17.95 per month for unlimited dialup service, a
bargin in my book:blush:) Here in the wilds of Eastern Kentucky, a dialup
connection is the only viable internet connection method available:blush:(

Again, good luck.

Netzero FREE

† The NetZero free service is limited to 10 hours per household per
month. The 10-hour per month limit is per household as we assume that
each household has only one computer and one phone line. If you are
sharing a computer or phone line with other NetZero users, your hourly
usage will be aggregated with those users - even if you have separate
Member IDs. Virus protection cannot detect or clean all viruses. As
described in the terms of service, you are responsible for any damages
caused by your decision to download email or attachments.

hope you like the popups

Perhaps you are right. I had another dial up ISP, who wasn't too bad. I
just thought I try another one. I did not delete this icon or
connection as I maybe go back. Thanks for reminding me, that might be
the reason why I get that bar always in my face. :)

They come now with Norton for two bucks extra the months. But I think
pretty all dial ups are a crying game. What a waste of time waiting for
response!

But I don't like Netzero and I assume Juno is the same thing.
