When trying to set-up a network in Windows XP (using the
network setup wizard) iget message "spoolsv.exe has
encountered a problem and must close........" The set-up
does not complete and I cannot view other computers in
Network Places.

Open a command prompt and type the following, then press Enter:

NET STOP SPOOLER

Then run the network setup wizard. When it's complete, go back to the
command prompt and type the following, then press Enter:

NET START SPOOLER

That should get you set up.

As a permanent solution you may wish to consider installing Windows XP
Service Pack 2 as it fixes this bug plus gives you all the latest Windows XP
updates.
