Network Wizard

I just ran the Network Wizard to set up a home netwrok with 4 computers and
one printer. I have XP Home on 3 computers and 98SE on the 4th computer.

The computers can connect to the Internet via a wireless D-Link router
(DI-624) without a problem. The hard wired one to the router is running XP
Home. Two other computers are running XP Home and one other is running 98SE.

Problem: I can see the other computers via "View workgroup computers" from
Network Places on the computer that is hard wired to the router (the gateway)
but when I attempt to access the other computers I receive the follwoing
error message : "XXXXX is not accessible. You might not have permission to
use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find
out if you have access permissio. The network path was not found."

Please advise how I can access the other computers on the netwrok.

Tony,

One of the most common causes of this problem would be a misconfigured or
overlooked personal firewall, but there are other possibilities too. What
antivirus products do you use?

Be aware of the problems incurred when mixing Windows 98 and XP on the LAN:

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each Windows
XP computer, so we can diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

I use Zone Alarm Premium version on the hard wired computer. On the wireless
clients I use the following:
98SE laptop - I use Zone Alarm firewall (free version) and AVG anti-virus
(free)
XP Home desktop -- NIS 2005
XP Home laptop- Mcafee antivirus and firewall

Should I try to shut down all security and firewalls to see if I can access
the other computers??

Please advise...

Tony,

Deactivating a personal firewall, such as Zone Alarm, does not always produce
useful results. ZA is well know here for problematic results. You should
either configure it properly, or un install it. AVG might also contain a
firewall component. Ditto NIS / NPF. And McAfee. Read the user guides, and
configure everything with great care.

Thanks for the help--it was the firewall configs that needed adjustment.
