Networking works in Linux but cant get anything in XP

Hey all, I managed to get my XP reinstalled last night... [there is a wee bit
of wrangling left to do] but I'm now having an absolutely bizarre time with
my network. I have the network asking for an IP and DNS info from the
network yet I cant seem to connect to anything outside of my comp. Internet
wont work... my DSL modem blinks but I get nothing back.

While checking to see if my network card might've gotten all fritzy I popped
in a copy of Knoppix and lo' and behold. The network is fine. Any
suggestions on what I can do in XP to get the comp back to what it used to be?

1. Did you install the drivers for all your hardware, including
motherboard and network adapter?

2. What about firewalls? Do you have a third-party one running as well
as the Windows SP2 one?

All the drivers appear to be there and it almost appears [lights are
blinking on the hub and modem] as though the comp is attempting
communication.

Firewalls? Nothing yet. Just installed WinXP and haven't even had a chance
to DL patches as I can't get anything through the pipe.

I've got all services and needed protocols installed and set up... I've
tried both with Win's firewall enabled and without.

Since I can't see your computer, I can't give you a definitive answer
but it sounds like you've got the wrong drivers installed for your NIC.
Uninstall the ones you've got and install new ones.

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

If you have installed drivers from Windows Update, you can roll them
