Networking with win2k and winxp

Good afternoon,
I have two computers (1 desktop win2000 and 1 laptop
winxp). I have wireless network cards for both and they
both work great. I access the internet through a
wireless linksys router which is connected to my cable
modem. However, I ran the network setup on the winxp
laptop and I clicked that I connect directly to the
internet through this computer. I then went through the
steps and created the network. However, sometimes my
win2k desktop "sees" the laptop in my network places but
can't access it because "I do not have proper
permission". I am the administrator.... On the laptop,
I can't even see the desktop at all. I can't even ping
the other computer on each computer. When I set my
wireless cards to "adhoc" I can't even get a connection.
Anyone that has any help at all please let me know!!!!
Thank you very much.

The simple answer is that you misconfigured your network. You ran the
network wizard and told it you connect to the Internet through this machine.
You don't! You connect to the Internet through the Linksys.

The wizard will have configured ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on
your Laptop! Try again using the correct option.
