Networking two PC's

I am trying to connect two PC's, using a parallel port
connection. The Host PC is using XP Home and the Guest XP
Pro, I have connected the cable to both PC's parallel
ports, used the network wizard, but the guest will not
access the host, I tried reversing the proceedure but
still no luck. All I want to do is share the printer and
a few files. Hoping that someone can help, many thanks,

are you going to connect the PCs to the internet?
if so, use a router or switch, if not use a HUB....
