Networking to Windows 2000 Server

I have a backup and print server running Windows 2000 Server. I just replaced my old Windows 2000 desktop with a Windows XP Home laptop. I networked the computers as my old network was set up, but have found a problem. After a certain amount of time, I can't access the shared resources on the server without logging in to the server. This is ordinarily a nuisance, but this really causes problems when my print jobs don't go through, and my backup program can't access the server to store its files.

How can I fix this, so that my server doesn't require a username and password from my laptop to access shared resources?

Thanks,
Brian

Windows 2000 server works by allowing user to join the configured Windows
domains. XP Home has/will never be able to connect to a Windows domain.

You should be using Windows XP Pro.
