Hi,

Am trying to netwok a laptop and PC. I have set up the workgroup and can see
the links in 'local netwok'.

I can even open files from the Laptop but when I try and open the desktop
link from the laptop I get a username & pass dialogue box,.

I never set up a username & pass.

thanks,

Ross

Ross,

In a peer to peer environment you have to create a user on each
machine. The username and password have to be exactly the same on
each.

However, in some cases "guest only" network access may be enabled. To
change this run gpedit.msc. Expand Computer Settings. Expand Security
Settings. Expand Local Policies. Select Security Options. In the right
pane scroll down until you see "Network Access: Sharing and Security
Model for Local Accounts". Change this from Guest Only to classic.

If you still have the same result as mentioned above. Make sure that
you the user you are logged on to the laptop is also on the desktop. To
display users on each machine, you can right click my comuter and
select manage. Then select Local users and groups in the left pane.

Hope this helps,
psg
