I'm a newbie to netwoking computers and I have just gotten my first
Laptop.Heres My problem.I have a dektop running XP Pro and a laptop Running
XP Pro connected together with a working crossover cable.I have use the
networking setup wizard on both machines.Simple filesharing is enabled on
both. The protocols on both machines are Filesharing checked TCP/IP checked
NetBIOS over TCP/IP checked,Ive even installed NetBEUI on both machines. The
Desktop can access the shared folders on the Laptop but the Laptop cant
access the shared folders on the Desktop. Both are in the same workgroup, but
when I click on my desktop I get and error msg saying Desktop is not
accessable. You might not have permission to use this network
resource.Contact the adiministrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.Access is Denied.I can ping each machine from the other,
so I'm guessing it's a setting somewhere. Can anyone enlighten me on what I
am doing wrong?
slsnodrifters at hotmail.com or post here plz.

Are you using NTFS permissions? If so, add everyone to the security
tab and give full permissions. Also check the share permissions. The
lesser of the two permission settings will apply.

Yes my drives are all NTFS.I added the catagory Everyone to the security
section, but I'm not sure about the share permissions, I'll check that
tonight. How come I didn't have to change any of these on my Laptop to allow
the shared folder to be shared with my Desktop? My Laptop O/S is xp sp2 as
well but it is a fresh intstall,my Desktop is also xp sp2 but its far from a
fresh install.

Setup an identical username and password on both machines or change your existing ones to match. Make sure any firewall's including Windows firewalls are disabled when running the wizard. Which service pack are you using on each machine?
