Networking Laptop XP and desktop 98

Phil

I am trying to network my new laptop with XP HE and internet connection with
a desktop running 98SE in my shop. I have a cross-over cable.
I run the network setup wizard on xp and create a disk to run on the other
'puter. 98 then says it cannot run the wizard as there is no network card,
but device manager has no red X's or yellow exclamations on my network card.
When I unplug the cable or when 98 restarts xp indicates that a network
cable is unplugged. Any ideas??? TIA, Phil.

As your 98 machine connects to the Internet through 1 NIC, it would need a
2nd NIC to connect to the XP machine by crossover cable.
Do you have 2 NIC's in the 98 machine?
