Networking issues

I am currently having an issue with a pc network of about 6 laptops. The
system is a Broadband modem connected to a seperate wireless router with 4
LAN ports. Three laptops work perfectly, connecting wirelessly to the
router. One laptop works perfectly plugged into the router. However I cannot
get 1 particular laptop to connect.

I plug it directly into the router and set TCP/IP settings to "Obtain IP
address" automatically, as it is on the other laptops. When I ipconfig from
the command prompt it seems to have received an IP address. Further to that
I can ping websites, ie. www.yahoo.com. However when I attempt to open my
browser it will not connect to the internet. This is the case in both IE and
Firefox. I have also been able to download updates from AVG (antivirus).

When I look at the network connections it shows that the Local Area Network
is connected, it also shows an internet gateway icon which shows connected
at 1bps(!). I have been unable to get rid of this by running the network
connection wizard as mention in the kb. This icon is not showing on any
other PCs.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Joshua.

Joshua,

Neither browser will connect, but you HAVE been able to download AVG updates?

Let's look at an "ipconfig /all" log from the problem computer, and from one
other.

Thanks Chuck.

Yes, the non-browsing PC will download AVG updates and ping websites
successfully. Below are the IP settings from a working PC and the
non-working PC, both have identical settings. I am convinced that the
non-working PC things it is connecting via another internet connected PC,
rather than directly through the router but I can't get it to change its
configuration.

Non-working PC:
DHCP Yes
Auto Config Yes
IP 192.168.0.109
Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers 192.168.0.1
10.1.1.1
DHCP Server 192.168.0.1

Working PC
DHCP Yes
Auto Config Yes
IP 192.168.0.129
Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers 192.168.0.1
10.1.1.1
DHCP Server 192.168.0.1

Well, there's but ONE difference between the 2 computers - the IP address. And
both are DHCP, so no problem there.

See if it's an LSP / Winsock problem. Here you gotta be VERY persistent.
