Have a Winxp-pro computer networking thru Linksys router and accessing the
internet that was working fine until recently. Do not know if I had updated
winxp-pro (only to SP1) , since it runs automatically, when the problem
started. When I first startup the other computer running winxp-home can be
seen as well as a winme computer. However as the day goes on I want to print
thru the winme computer and it will not see the networked winme printer.
Then I check to see if I can see the files on winme and behold now I can
not, but I still can see the winxp-home computer. If I restart my winxp pro
computer then I can again see the winme computer. Unlike others I have not
lost getting the internet. Anyone know what is going on?

Found on http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm a possible solution to
my problem which may solve others. Here are the steps given:
1. Click start button
2. Click "My Network Places"
3. Right-click and click on "Properties"
4. Right-click on "Local Area Connection" and click on "Properties"
5. click on the "Authentication" tab
6. Uncheck "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X"
7. Click "OK"
Hope this helps others.

Yes, thanks for reporting back. I knew the problem, but your
symptoms looked too different for me to reply to your first
messages. Now I know a little more.

If you still remember, I'd be happy to know any error messages
and whether you could actually see the shares and printers, just
not access them, or whether you couldn't even see them.

I could see the internet through the router but could not see the Win98me
computer which also had the network's printer. Sometimes I could see the
WinXp-Home computer and sometimes not. If I restarted the WinXp-Pro computer
I could see everything for a while. No other error messages.

This problem developed after something happening over the past week, but do
not know what since everything had been working great for the past 6 months
before.

Have not updated with Sp2 yet. Since others been having lots of problems I
figure on waiting until the bugs are worked out. Have not seen anything from
Microsoft yet.

Thanks again for the information!

Actually, I have not seen a single defect in Service Pack 2 that
would affect any significant number of users. Practically all
problems reported here in the newsgroup were not caused by
Service Pack 2. Instead they were caused by other problems that
were already there before the service pack was installed.

In other words, I would recommend to check
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm for foreseeable problems, and
if there aren't any, I would recommend to install the service
pack.

If you do run into problems, you can usually just uninstall the
service pack again or roll back the installation using System
Restore.
