I have 3 computers plugged into a linksys 4 port
cable/dsl router. They all share files and access the
internet fine(all on winXP), but when I unplug the
computers, and plug a single computer directly into the
cable modem, it cannot browse the internet, it worked
when I had only one computer. I think that the computers
are set to recognize that router, but now when they just
plug into the modem, they can't. Please help.

Try disabling the network connection before you unplug from the router
and enabling the network connection after you plug into the cable
modem.

Another possible fix is to turn the cable modem off, wait a minute,
and turn it back on.
