Charlie,

Are any of the PCs running XP Pro? If so, check to see if Simple File Sharing
(Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) is enabled or
disabled. With XP Pro, you need to check the SFS settings.

If SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

If you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure that the Guest
account is enabled, and has an identical, non-blank, password on all computers.
If "Classic", setup and use a common account with identical, non-blank, password
on all computers.

Do any of the computers have a software firewall (ICF or third party)? If so,
you need to configure them for file sharing, by opening ports TCP 139, 445 and
UDP 137, 138, 445, and / or by identifying the other computers as present in the
Local (Trusted) zone. Firewall configurations are a very common cause of
(network) browser, and file sharing, problems.

Please provide ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.
Label each with name and version of operating system.

Cheers,
Chuck

<SNIP 1 of the 3 requested ipconfig listings>

Charlie,

That's a good start. Now, by comparing that to the ipconfig listings for the
other 2 computers (also needed), I can see if your problem is network config
related.

WRT the password, try Control Panel - User Accounts - (select the Guest account)
- Change my password.

Hi Chuck
I found my USER and policies were modified.
Access this computer from network are emptied
and IUSR_PCNAME were deleted from my PC. And the
HelpAssistant account was enabled. The default is
disabled. I do believe someone (hacked) in and run
a security level update in my PC. I just don't know
whom. From the modification I think is not a malicious
onebut a big annoying. Now the problem is how can i
retrieve them back. I am not a security guy. It is a sort
of task to me. Could you help?

Thanks

Charlie
