Network trouble after upgrade to XP from 2K

Hello,

I just upgraded to XP Pro (SP2) from Win 2k. Everything is great,
except I can't get my machine to see the Primary Domain Controller on
the network and hence I am unable to actually join the network.

I can ping the machine:

C:\WINNT\system32>ping 10.10.10.3

Pinging 10.10.10.3 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 10.10.10.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 10.10.10.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 10.10.10.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 10.10.10.3: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 10.10.10.3:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

but can't see using net view \\machinename:

C:\WINNT\system32>net view \\pdc
System error 53 has occurred.

The network path was not found.

I have an internet connection. I am posting using the machine in
question. I can see every other machine on the netwotk, except the
PDC.

Currently the machine belongs to a workgroup. I tried to change that
to a domain, but can't see the PDC.

Tried using the Network ID Wizard in System Properties | Computer Name
Tab. Get a message saying the specified domain does not exist or could
not be located.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks Matt

Make sure that the WinXP computer is looking only at the domain DNS server
for name resolution and nowhere else.
