Hi, Can anyone tell me how to speed up my network please. Basically I have
two computers connected to a main server which holds all personal info on
INCLUDING the outlook files so every machines emails are stored on the
server, however it get very slow when you computers receive emails I was just
wondering how could I speed this up, is it RAM on the server or what?

There are a couple of things to check first:
1) Are the NICs on each computer set to 100 MB Full Duplex?
2) Are you using a Switch to connect the computers? If you have a hub, this is
where part of the slow down is. Is the device capable of using 100 MB Full
Duplex? Check the manual for this one.
3) Are you using CAT 5 or higher cables to connect the computer to the
hub/switch...most cables now a days are at least cat 5.

Thank you:

Q1> How do I set the NIC's to 100MB full cap...?

Q2> Yes the HUB is capable of 100MB Full

Q3> I am using CAT5

Any help is MUCH appreciated.

Without knowing the make and model of the NICs, all we can say is
follow the manufacturer's instructions.

If you biggest problem with network speed is with Outlook, then I'd switch
where then main store files are located. Keep the Outlook store files
locally on the machine that Outlook is being run from, and back them up to
the server, with the PST backup utility.

In XP, go to network connections, right click on your NIC and click
properties, click configure, the advanced tab, and there should be an option
for link speed and duplex. Most of the time it is set to auto detect by
default but you can force it to full duplex.
Hope this helps
