I have a Router with 6 computers atached, 5 by Lan, 3 ofwhich are on Windows
2000 the other 2 Windows XP Pro, the sixth on is connected by wireless- XP
pro. The computers are all password protected. When accessing the network
the computers with windows 2000 - request a password. BUT the computers with
XP Pro (SP2) just grant access without asking for a password - that is a
problem.

Can anyone help me here please - I have tried all sortsof security settings
under local Security policy - I must be missing something!!!!

Disabling simple file sharing on the XP Pro computers will make them
act just like the Windows 2000 computers:

1. Open My Computer.
2. Click Tools.
3. Click Folder Options.
4. Click View.
5. Scroll to the end of the list of Advanced settings.
6. Un-check "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)".

Thanks Steve, but I should have mentioned that I had already tried that.

I even tried setting the various folders - but that becomes global, so the
selected users are also unable to access the desired information. I also
have a network at home, where my laptop makes a wireless connection. There I
have 2 desktops (both XP Pro) they are connected by a lan. One of those has
a wireless which connects to my Laptop. This computer then bridges the
connections for the third computer - it works well. At home - I tested the
setup - and it does require a password there. Here at the office it still
allows all the computers to access the laptop, Do U think I need to setup
the whole network again - perhaps somehow they have remembered the
PassworD???? or they remember the previous access allowed???? Could that
make sense???
