network problem

my network goes off automatically and comes back after
some time this is a problem noticed only with windows 2000
professional .pls give a solution to this

Exactly what do you mean by "goes off"? What do you see? What can you do and
what can you not do when the network "goes off"?

Can you ping from a client to another machine on the subnet? Can you ping
from the client to its default gateway?

A hunch tells me from your limited information you have a bad cable
connection which is intermittent.
