I have a small network of 3 computers 2 running 98 and 1
running xp home. Connection is via ethernet cable and
de528 pci ethernet adapters. The network was working fine
until I had the worm virus symtoms of a count down box
due to rpc instruction. After the worm virus entered my
machine I used the fix having followed the instructions.
Now however my network connection is not working. Other
machines on the network can see my machine but cannot
access files etc. The network adapter is not connected
and is said to be unplugged. However as said other
computers can see my machine and the adapter is working
properly. I cannot create new clients for network, the
drivers are no longer on the machine. Does anyone have
any suggestions?

When we fixed this problem in my company it was a two-
stage process. We first applied the MS patch, then ran a
stand-alone virus scanner by McAfee called stinger.exe.
The MS patch closed the security hole and stinger removed
the actual virus.
