RPC Disabled problem or blast worm ?

Andrew

I recieved the RPC worm yesterday afternoon, so I talked
to HP support. The person told me to first go to "Run"
then type services.msr or something like that. Then he
told me to right click on RPC(not the locator) and to go
to
"Properties". I did that. Then he told me to go to "Log
in" or "Log out" I can't remember exactly what it was
called. Then he told me to click "Disable" next to some
hardware thing. I did that. Then I restarted the
computer like he said, but then it took an unusually long
time to boot up. After I got into my profile, the START
menu wouldn't show up, it appeared to be hidden on the
very bottom of the screen, I couldn't expand it. Also, my
internet connection shortcut for SBC DSL wouldn't respond
when I double clicked on it. I went back to RPC and tried
to go into "properties" to reactivate the RPC. Properties
wouldn't open. Network connections showed nothing in the
folder so I couldn't turn on the firewall. It seems like
most of the "essentials" wouldn't respond. So I thought
it was just the worm so I went onto an unaffected computer
and burned the Microsoft patch and Symantec Worm remover.
I removed the worm sucessfully. In the task manager I do
not see "msblast.exe" anymore or any equivalent of it.
However, the patch wouldn't install saying it
couldn't "Verify" it or whatever.inf or ini. It said to
make sure my "Cryptography" was running. So my question
is: is this the RPC disabled affecting the computer or is
the worm somehow still affecting the computer? I don't
have the restarting problem anymore. How do I fix this?
Thanks a lot and sorry for the long post.
