I am not sure it is relevant here, but I think HP wrote much of the Stardard
TCP/IP port monitor and HP now has a similar port monitor that will find a
printer by MAC address, allowing the IP address to be dynamic. I got it with
my new HP Photosmart 8450 printer, which can use DHCP. Nice.
And please (oh please) stay away from the old-fashioned HP Jet Admin
software. I discovered that it installs a print provider that causes a
program to stop responding for about a minute that queries configuration
information for any printer on Windows 9x. HP describes it as obsolete.
