I am trying to install a HP 5550dn printer over the network, and near the end
of the installation process, am getting an error, "the HP Color LaserJet 5550
Setup program has encountered a severe error and will now exit. Restart your
computer and run Setup again." We, at my office, have installed it, by disc,
to all other computers without a hitch. The only difference we notice with
my PC is that it is running Windows XP Home 2002 SP2 , while the others are
running XP Pro 2002 SP2. I can ping the ip address of the printer just fine,
and can open the configuration page for the printer ip address in a browser.
I tried installing it from a downloaded setup program from HP as well. Have
also tried adding the printer through windows add printer wizard (not found).
