Network odditty

I have a simple WIRELESS network of a laptop running XP Home and a desktop
machine also on XP Home. The problem is that while the network will work
without problems for most of the time, an irritating balloon appears every 60
seconds or so with the message "Network Bridge (Network Bridge) 11 ... A
network cable is unplugged."

Since there is no cable - the network relies on a wirelss connection - this
is surprising.

I'd be most grateful for help on this matter: it can be very distracting
when i am working on a file or an image.

Try:

Start
Network Connections (or Connect to)
Right Click on Local Area Connections
Click Disable

That will prolly do it

Do you need to join two or more network connections together? If not,
open the Network Connections folder, right-click the network bridge,
and remove it. Also, disable any unused LAN connection.

Dear Steve

That was immediately helpful and provided the solution.
My lack of understanding was based on a lack of knowledge - once more !

I'm most grateful for your help.

You're welcome, George. I'm glad to help.

I've written a web page with more information about the network
bridge:

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite laptop with Windows XP SP2.

I have a very similar problem, except that I am not using a wireless network
at all. I also do not have the wireless button on the side of my laptop
turned on. Still, I keep getting a balloon which pops up from the tray below
and tells me "No Wireless Connection Found" (or, something to that effect).
It remains until I click it off.

Would your recommendation below still work in this case? I'm a little bit
wary about disabling something that might be needed later on.

Thanks.

Open the Network Connections folder, right-click the wireless network
connection, and click Disable.

You can right-click and enable the wireless connection in the future
if desired.
