Don't know Bob, as you know -- AVG up-dates almost every day.

I'll disable the AVG firewall, enable the XP firewall and see what happens,
what do you think ??

Worth a shot, this is an odd one.

Well, I un-installed AVG w/firewall, rebooted --- installed Avast home
edition (registered), turned on XP firewall and it seemed ok till I had to
goto the store for an hour------ it's the same old, same old lag thing.
Geeessszz!!!

Next idea or move to make anyone...??

Is there a "router" in between the PC and the NIC? Another tact would be
to try a keep-alive program or this keepalive.bat file to keep it from
nodding off.

---------
:begin
ping -n 301 127.0.0.1
ping -n 1 (gateway IP address)
goto begin
----------
